Over 2 days in France, Dr Lee shared his expertise and perspective in knee preservation surgeries with fellow knee surgeons.
Knee preservation is in a renaissance phase, and we are committed in empowering surgeons to provide patients with viable options in keeping their biologic knees.
At the 1st Japanese Knee Society Meeting in Yokohama Dec ‘23, Dr Lee shared with Japanese Knee Surgeons our local knee osteotomy cases combined with ligament and meniscus procedures.
Through such meetings, we are able to exchange knowledge and learn best osteotomy practices from Asia’s knee preservation surgeons.
We are delighted to have conducted our 1st Asia-Europe Knee Preservation Course 2023. Together with Professor Adrian Wilson and Dr Ronald van Heerwaarden, A/Prof Hamid and Dr Lee Kong Hwee have provided insights on the concepts and principles in Knee Preservation surgeries. On Day 2, comprehensive hands-on sessions were implemented for professional enthusiasts to enhance their skills in planning and performing knee osteotomies.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our following esteemed sponsors for their generous support, which has played a pivotal role in making this event a resounding success!
Congratulations to our Vice-President, A/Prof Hamid in his acceptance as one of the Travelling Fellows 2023 in ICRS – International Cartilage Regeneration & Joint Preservation Society! Together with other international fellows, A/Prof Hamid has distinguished himself based on his scientific contributions and motivations to continue his involvement with the ICRS. In the month of September 2023, A/Prof Hamid will be visiting Centres of Excellence across Europe which are at the forefront of cartilage regeneration and joint preservation
Last week, the Singapore Knee Preservation Society (SKPS) team held our 2nd working meeting for the year which concluded with an engagement session with residents, medical officers as well as students who were all keen to embark on research related to knee preservation! We believe in the strength of collaboration and we look forward to journeying together with these bright young minds to publish high-quality papers in peer-reviewed journals, contributing to the wider literature on knee preservation and most importantly, creating impact! Reach out if you wish to collaborate with us!
It was a very enriching and productive week for our society with our president Dr Lee Kong Hwee sharing his knowledge and opinions on osteotomy as a knee preserving option especially in younger patients with knee osteoarthritis at the Annual Scentific Meeting of the Malaysian Society for Hip and Knee Surgeons from 4 to 6 May 2023.
A recent study by Perdisa et al published in Cartilage showed that utility of total knee arthroplasty in the middle-aged patient population up to 65 years old increased significantly over time. These patients present a double risk of failure with respect to older patients. This is particularly important considering the increasing life expectancy and the emergence of new joint preserving strategies, which could postpone the need for a total knee arthroplasty to an older age.
We are also very pleased for our younger colleagues, Dr Don Koh and Dr Teo Shao Jin who presented free papers at the meeting and did us proud by winning the top 2 free paper awards !
We would like to take the opportunity to thank the organizers (Prof Dr Azhar Merican, Dr Veenesh Selvaratnam and the entire team) for inviting us to share our work and for the wonderful hospitality!
